Frankly, I'd try some other store - maybe Fry's or Tweeter? And there may be some local options that will have real customer service.
Give the little guys a chance - in cases of electronic things, they're usually a lot better.
Also, in the LCD versus plasma debate, there are benefits and drawbacks on both sides. The plasma is brighter, as each pixel is self-illuminated. But plasma screens are delicate and finicky, and prone to burn-in. On the other hand, LCDs are more durable over the long-haul, but they are backlit, so the backlight can go (but is replaceable).
Frankly, with the advances in LCD tech, I'd lean that direction these days. Just my $0.02.

Okay, that's the first time I've ever heard the word "Fry's" so close to the phrase "real customer service" without a negative in front. *shudder*
